Profile of Keta Library
Keta Branch Library was among the first Branch Libraries established in the country around 1957 and it is one of the oldest among the two libraries in the Keta Municipality (Keta and Anloga Libraries).Some prominent citizens of the nation, notable among them was former Appeal Court Judge; Justice Jiagge contributed immensely to lobby for this present Building the library is occupying today.
It has since been operational in this temporary building; a one story building housing both adult and children’s library together at the upstairs, until 2007, when the children’s library was re-located to the downstairs. It was part of the first branch libraries which benefited from Library Connectivity Projects (LCP) by Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) in collaboration with Ghana Library Authority (Ghs. L. A), and also formation of Public Library for Development (PLIFOD), by Tech Aide and Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL).
With a committed hardworking staff headed by Mr. Amedume-Odamson Victor, the library gets majority of its stocks from NGO’s and other donors, for example, the Denmark Embassy donated thousands of assorted books in 2007, Books for Africa Library Projects gave 3,200 in 2013, We also received 200 assorted books from BOOKS MATTER an NGO based in Canada, Led by Mr. Keith Goddard and since then, such books were received every year from the said NGO. Some books were also added to the stocks periodically from the Head Office in Accra through Regional Office at Ho. Some Authors like Mrs. P.M.K Amevor and Mrs. Agbotadua Togbivi Kumassah gave copies of their books respectively to the branch. ISKCON Ghana a religious organization at Keta also donated 16 copies of religious books to the branch.
Other prominent personalities in the town, , Mr. Gobah-Tenge also donated 22 copies of Ewe books to help improve the stock at the library as the library lacks those unique books. In the case of Mr. Mitch Woolams He take it upon himself to renovate the entire building to put up a new face.
Some individuals also contributed meaningfully with donations to procure curtains and other logistics for the library. Currently, the library is being sponsored by Mr. Mitch Woolams for major renovation work that changes the face of the Library.
